Due to the current drought crisis, AUS dive crews are relocating Echo Bay’s water intake barge to deeper water on Echo Bay, Lake Mead.
The water intake barge is currently sitting in shallow water as Lake Mead’s water levels reach historic lows. AUS is relocating the barge and four concrete anchors as well as extending the water and electrical distribution to the new barge location.
AUS crews are moving the barge to deeper water so cooler water from greater depths can be pumped to water tanks on the beach. This will ensure surrounding communities will continue to have access to water.
According the U.S. National Park Service, Lake Mead currently provides municipal water for the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City, Nevada, as well as municipal and industrial water and irrigation water for downstream users.
